Ballet For All is JMU’s first ballet club! We are a supportive environment where dancers have the upmost respect, encouragement, and genuine care for one another. Our priority is putting the health and safety of dancers first and foremost by building a strong foundation of technique. Ballet For All is a free club open to everybody regardless of experience.

Membership Benefits
Members will have the opportunity to learn ballet from experienced dancers who teach from a strong technical background. Members will have access to attend any class safe for their level of ability.

The United States has been falling into an illiteracy epidemic since 2019, but our downfall has been happening far before that. I was hit with this realization when helping with a third grade class in an elementary school classroom. A little girl who was in third grade simply couldn’t spell sentences she should’ve been spelling much earlier than that. It wasn’t just one kid though, it was a little girl who couldn’t read a single word in an age appropriate book, it was a group of second-grade boys who couldn’t tell me what an early reader level book was about after I read it to them. I could’ve blamed it on kids not caring or their parents being lazy, but these kids aren’t at fault, and, contrary to common belief, neither are the parents. It’s true that many parents are capable of reading to their kids but choose not to, but what about the parents who can’t read? That is why we aren’t focusing only on pediatric literacy; we want to help anyone who will accept it, regardless of age. We plan to volunteer, fundraise, and do everything we can to help increase literacy rates, starting right here in Harrisonburg!
