A Moment of Magic is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to improve the quality of life of medically vulnerable and underserved children and inspire them to be brave, strong, and fearless through fun and engaging social wellness activities.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that allows college students to provide creative programming to pediatric hospitals, social service institutions, and directly to families. Our most popular service is our character visits, featuring princesses and superheroes! A Moment of Magic makes a tremendous impact on the kids we provide services too, as we often are not just making their day better, but their overall quality of life. As our friends at the Magic Yarn Project say, princesses truly are "symbols of strength, courage, and true determination for young children everywhere".

If you want to provide hands-on service to children with medical vulnerabilities (especially in character), joining A Moment of Magic is the BEST option for several reasons!

We're established! We have been around since 2015 and because of this we have several benefits such as our nonprofit status, long-lasting relationships with over 250 nonprofits and hospitals across the country, press coverage by more than 300+ international media outlets, fully developed training materials and resources, direct connections to professionals, high costume quality standards and partners who bring the prices down for us, and a community of over 500+ volunteers. There's nothing like A Moment of Magic!

We do chemistry demonstrations for the Harrisonburg community. The requirements to rush (during the fall semesters) are, must have a GPA of 2.5 or above and have six chemistry courses including labs. An example is, someone who has taken general chemistry one and two with the labs and that is now in organic chemistry with the lab.

A Brief History of the Project
Dr. Bill Ritchie, CSX Professor of Management at James Madison University, and Dr. Mark Smith, Executive Director of Mihret Medical Supply Group, met in the summer of 2019 to identify ways in which JMU Supply Chain Students might engage in global logistics as well as help support the mission of Mihret. The most pressing issue at the time was the Ebola crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo and other surrounding countries.

Ritchie and Smith identified the most critical needs for Mihret as sourcing, storing, and shipping the medical equipment and supplies.

Thanks to the help of various donors and contributors, the initial launch of the project was able to deliver a 40′ container to the Democratic Republic of Congo in Febrary, 2020. Since that time, this project has helped Mihret ship four additional 40′ high cube containers to Africa.

The purpose of this organization is to provide students who have a recreational and competitive interest in gymnastics with a place to work out and meet other students. Fulfilling two functions of student organizations, our gymnastics club serves as a place to encourage social development and knowledge for working together as an organized group. Lastly, it is designed to encourage students to participate in competitions within the National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Club (NAIGC).

A student-run organization through UREC Sport Clubs, the JMU Competitive Cheerleading team has no off season. Dancing Dukes is a club for students to join that wish to dance weekly alongside fellow club members. This club is open to all backgrounds and levels of dance. Once a week there will be a technique class consisting of jumps, leaps, turns, and stretching. The other day there will be two styles of dances. As an example of how the club runs, one week we would have an hour of a Jazz class then an hour of Hip Hop. Then the following week we would have an hour of Contemporary then an hour of Tap. All the classes are optional. Once you are a member you can come to all classes or just one or two a month. Some people only come to tap classes and others only jazz! The cycle will continue for the semester. No class is mandatory. Members can come to as many or as little classes as desired. As well there will be social events outside of the weekly classes to build a community within the club. We also have a performance troupe for members interested in more of a time commitment and a desire to perform. For all members, there is a recital at the end of each semester.

Ethiopian & Eritrean Student Association is a heritage club that celebrates the cultures of Ethiopia and Eritrea. EESA is a unique cultural organization on the JMU campus that aims to provide a welcoming space for anyone that is interested in immersing themselves within the rich culture.

In addition, we want to bridge the gap between the people who want to help and the ones who so desperately need it. As multicultural students of JMU, we want to connect the diaspora of our school, and while doing so, our other priority is to give back to our communities through various fundraising events held on campus. Previously, as part of our fundraising efforts, we partnered up with organizations like Wax and Gold, located in Ethiopia, whose mission is to help infants in hospitals by providing sustainable healthcare and materials. We helped donate Neo-Tee® respirator packets which have helped over 2000 infants in delivery rooms across two hospitals located in Ethiopia. Our mission moving forward is to give aid to similar organizations.
