Mission
The Center for Multicultural Student Services is an integral part of the student experience at James Madison University as we educate and advocate for racial equity, intersectionality, and effective allyship. CMSS strives to support an inclusive campus through dialogue, leadership experiences and cultural celebrations beyond the classroom that honor and value diverse identities.

Membership Benefits
CMSS is home to 46 multicultural student organizations. These orgs are diverse in their membership as well as in their focuses, with interests ranging in the areas of diversity, religious affiliation, service, multicultural Greek life, and academics. As a department CMSS supports these organizations in their efforts to educate the campus community about their interest areas through programs, events, and celebratory gatherings. We also engage them and their executive boards in leadership development opportunities, ensuring that they develop skills that will benefit them currently while managing a student organization, as well as beyond in their future careers.

To provide a safe, supportive, trusting, and confidential environment which empowers students to develop the awareness, values, and skills they will need to meet future challenges and lead vital, meaningful lives.

The primary focus of the Counseling Center mission is to provide the highest quality individual and group counseling to students struggling with problems common to a college population. Additionally, we serve as an assessment and referral source for students with more serious and chronic psychological difficulties. We also engage in active outreach efforts focusing on the prevention of problems and maximizing the potential of all students to benefit from the academic environment and experience.

We are committed to collaborating and partnering with other Student Affairs units and University divisions, serving as consultants to our educational colleagues on psychological matters, and playing an integral role in the management of emergencies and crises affecting our students. The Counseling Center further enhances the educational mission of the University by integrating the training of new mental health professionals within the provision and evaluation of counseling services.

Mission
The nation's first academic center for Black poetry, the Furious Flower Poetry Center is committed to ensuring the visibility, inclusion, and critical consideration of Black poets in American letters, as well as in the whole range of educational curricula. Our programming seeks to cultivate an appreciation for poetry among students of all levels—from elementary to graduate school and beyond. In addition, Furious Flower seeks to support and promote Black poets at all stages of their careers and to preserve the history of Black poets for future generations.
