When SafeRides was first imagined, the creators never thought it would come this far. But, on October 8th, 2011 around 12:15 in the morning SafeRides gave its 30,000th ride to a couple of JMU students! This totally demolished any record that was held before by reaching over 2,000 rides in just the first two months of the semester!
Each patron that gets into a SafeRides car is counted towards this tally and it started when SafeRides gave its first ride back in the spring of 2007. This non-judgmental organization has dramatically risen in popularity as the way to get home safely here at JMU. When we started in the spring of 2007 we did not reach 10,000 rides till two years later and in just two short years we were able to triple the number of rides given. This has led to the "Drive for 25" campaign so we can add on a fifth car in the spring of 2012. We will be able to give even more rides and save that many more lives in the process.
